WATER – INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES

MEMBRANE FILTRATION

Membrane filtration and separation is used in a variety of industrial applications, and can be a lower cost alternative to some conventional thermal separation processes. Most people are familiar with membrane technology due to its use in reverse-osmosis systems, which in industrial/commercial applications can provide drinking water for large facilities or remote camps.

Membrane filters are also regularly used as a final stage of filtration in the food & beverage industry, to help treat waste-water and in various biotechnology and pharmaceutical applications. Finally, and perhaps most relevant to those living in coastal environments, membrane filtration is used in desalinization processes, which include both on-shore and off-shore watermakers.

Our membranes are all manufactured by GE’s Power & Water division in the USA, and cross the range of membrane pore sizes including reverse osmosis (RO), nanofiltration (NF), ultrafiltration (UF), and microfiltration (MF). GE designs and manufacturers industry leading elements, and provide replacement membranes for Dow/FilmTec, Hdranautics, Toray, CMS and KMS.
